Where I’m currently working
I’m currently offering counselling through Tāne Whai Ora Canterbury Men’s Centre.
To work with me, make an initial appointment with them, and ask if Bear currently has availability. If not, there’s a large team of professionals which can support you on your journey too.
My approach is to meet you where you’re at, to talk about what’s helpful for you, and move at your pace towards the change you personally wish to make
You might attend counselling to move through experiences such as:
How we can work together
Lowness or depression
Stuck and desiring change
Nervousness or anxiety
Stress and overwhelm
Challenging relationship patterns
Gender or sexual identity
Cultural and ancestral identity
Suicidal thoughts
Grief
Self harm
Our working relationship is very important for this to be of value to you, so firstly we’ll ensure that we’re a good fit. Who you are matters, and I welcome your cultural practices and personal identities with you into our sessions.
What to expect
My counselling approach is personalised for each client.
In our sessions, we’ll take time to understand what’s happening in your life and how it’s affecting you—not just on the surface, but at a deeper level. Together, we’ll explore your experiences with curiosity, creating space for you to talk about what matters most. We’ll also look at what you want to be different, and gently work toward small, meaningful change.
Your identity—how you see yourself, your values, and what’s important to you—plays a central role in our work together. As we talk, we’ll explore how your story has shaped you, and how you might want to shape it going forward. My aim is to offer a supportive space where you feel truly heard and where your voice and sense of self are central to the process.
Everyone has a different experience of counselling, however I do my best to ensure:
you’re heard, understood and cared for
we talk about what’s most helpful and important for you
we explore what actually works for you and how you could do more of it
everything you share is confidential (within the limits of harm and legal liability)
Counselling is not about judging you or diagnosing you with a mental illness, instead it’s about reflecting on your experiences, creating understanding and together navigating a path towards change.
We continue our sessions only as long as it’s helpful. This may be as little as 6 sessions or regularly ongoing, it’s up to you.
